Does It Offend You, Yeah?
Mar 14, 2011
Reading's critically acclaimed Does It Offend You, Yeah? are set to release the follow up to 2008's You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into, the much anticipated Don't Say We Didn't Warn You on March 15th on The End Records/Cooking Vinyl.
Does It Offend You, Yeah? formed in Reading in 2006 around the core of James and Dan (alongside drums/bass/synth master Rob Bloomfield, guitarist Matty Derham and bassist Chloe Duveaux). They've been compared to bands like Justice and Klaxons but it their raucous live shows set them apart from other bands in the genre.
Having just come off US tour dates with Linkin Park, the band have released the first single from the upcoming album, "The Monkeys Are Coming."
Classified as everything from dance-punk to synthpop to electro house to new rave to indie rock, one listen to DIOYY's new album and you'll find yourself in the company of the most uncompromising, un-corporate, angry, passionate and dedicated-to-the-cause band around right now.
Says frontman James Rushent, "I think it's about time we have a f***ing mess. We want to perform music that, if we heard it, we'd go 'oh, who's that?' rather than 'here's another f***ing '60s soul artist.' [The 18 months spent recording the album] was stressful, panicky and hard work. It's the nature of how we work. It's like trying to put a jigsaw together where you don't know what the picture is at the end." Synth master Dan Coop concurs, "This is our break-out album. It has got balls-out angry stuff and serene melancholic, quite depressing stuff as well. We'd rather show all our hands like that than write a whole album that sounds the same."
