Red Hot Chili Peppers
Jul 11, 2011
The Red Hot Chili Peppers return with their highly-anticpated 10th album on August 30th titled I'm With You. It's the Los Angeles-based band's first release since the double album Stadium Arcadium in 2006, the band's five time Grammy winning album.
The new album was produced by Rick Rubin, at Cello Studios, Los Angeles; the same studio in which the band recorded Californication, released in 1999, and at EastWest Studios and Shangri LA. The album's recording sessions took place from September 2010 to March 2011. According to Rubin, the band recorded enough material to release a second double album, following their previous album but ultimately decided not to. It is the band's first studio album to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, following the departure of John Frusciante in 2009. Frusciante announced he was amicably leaving the band to focus on his solo career. Klinghoffer, who had worked both as a sideman for the band on their Stadium Arcadium tour and on Frusciante's solo projects, joined as lead guitarist.
Regarding the album, vocalist Anthony Kiedis noted, "there is no question - this is a beginning," with drummer Chad Smith stating, "this is a new band. Same name, but it's a new band." The band's new lineup consists of Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Michael "Flea" Balzary (bass), Chad Smith (drums) and Klinghoffer (guitar). The group's musical style has merged traditional funk with elements of other genres, including punk and psychedelic rock.
On June 17, 2011, the Chili Peppers announced their first European tour in four years. Beginning with a few warm-up dates in Asia in August, the I'm With You tour will officially kick off in Bogota, Colombia on September 11th and will continue through 2013, with more dates to be announced soon.
The first single, "The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie" arrives at radio on July 18th.
