AWOLNATION
Oct 3, 2011
Awolnation, Aaron Bruno, Christopher Thorn, Hayden Scott, Dav Amezcua, Kenny Carkeet, began after Bruno(vocals) was approached by Red Bull Records in 2009 asking if he wanted free use of the Red Bull recording studio in Los Angeles. After a semi-successful career working with major labels but ultimately being disappointed and released without any major hits, he decided it was time to go out on his own and write the songs that he felt he was meant to write. He recorded a few songs in the studio and ultimately signed with the label calling it more of a "partnership" and was allowed to make the recordings that he wanted. Aaron writes all of his songs himself but confides in close friends and family or respected artists for guidance. The name Awolnation is derived from Bruno's high school nickname.
The band's first single, "Sail," has been Top 5 on the Alternative Songs charts for five weeks straight, is currently climbing the Active Rock chart and has cracked the Top 40. The band released their debut album Megalithic Symphony digitally on March 15, 2011, and the physical CD was released March 29, 2011 on Red Bull Records. The album was featured on iTunes as one of the "Great Albums of 2011," and continues its 26 week run on the Billboard charts, topping the Alternative New Artists chart.
Most recently, Awolnation has announced the "Awolnation Fall Harvest" headlining concert tour in support of their debut album with Middle Class Rut and Twin Atlantic to support. Throughout the tour the band will be working with local community food banks to establish a food drive at each show, benefiting area families in need. Returning to the states after a European tour run, the band recently performed an energetic set at the Austin City Limits Music Festival that had singer Aaron Bruno literally sailing across a sea of 40,000 fans. Their follow-up single to "Sail," titled "Not Your Fault" is sure to be another hit for the band and is impacting Alternative on October 18th.
