The Virginmarys
Nov 12, 2012
Fierce, fresh and utterly unique Manchester powerful trio The Virginmarys are the band to put hook driven guitar music back into the music world. Their debut album, King of Conflict is due out February 5th, 2013 on Wind-Up Records. The lead single, "Dead Man's Shoes," has a fresh, striking guitar intro and it slowly builds up on greatness and energy as the drums kick in, followed by louder guitars and a marvelous vocal.
According to bassist Matt Rose, "Dead Man's Shoes" encompasses exactly what The Virginmarys are about, it's the ultimate Virginmarys tune".
Their music blends the dynamics of platinum class 'grunge' (Nirvana, Mudhoney and Screaming Trees) with the spikiness of punk and the attention to detail and honesty of prime British rock of the early '70s. Live or in rehearsals, The Virginmarys are at their most comfortable with their instruments in hand. Whether this is cool or not in a world where we sometimes seem to want our bands to devote themselves to studiously not playing is of no consequence to them.
They spent the last two years touring extensively, supporting bands like Eagles Of Death Metal, Slash, Ash, We Are Scientists and Skunk Anansie, repeated headline club tours and appearances at Download and Sonisphere. In the process they have also been featured on BBC Breakfast, scored an iTunes single of the week both in the UK and US, had a track featured on Rockband 3 and sold out London's Garage at a canter as part of HMV's Next Big Thing series in 2011.
Such intense marketing has fulfilled two of the trio's aims, to create their own fan base away from the full glare of media hype and to make sure that they were battle ready when they recorded their album, King Of Conflict. They created this album live under the watchful eyes of Toby Jepson and Chris Sheldon (Pixies, Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro).
