BOY
Feb 24, 2013

The Swiss-German pop duo, Boy, will be releasing their debut album, Mutual Friends on February 26th via Nettwerk Records. The first single released is "Little Numbers" and it has already sparked countless YouTube tributes and was even featured in the Lufthansa Airline's Business Class advertisement in mid 2012. This song is certainly one of the album's catchiest tracks, and displays Boy's penchant for rhymes that tickle the intellect of the audience:
"Seven little numbers baby they could be a start. Seven little numbers baby I know yours by heart", they chant. This debut album was produced by Philip Steinke and was released in Europe in September 2011. It has already achieved Gold status in Germany, where it has sold more than 100,000 copies. Mutual Friends is an autobiographical affair, made up of smart, sharply-observed songs that resonate because they're about everyday life. The hooks are contagious and the lyrics are straight from the heart.
"It's about arrivals and new beginnings," explains Boy singer, Valeska. "About hopes and dreams and aspirations. We want to make music that's positive and hopeful," she says. "There is more to music than heartbreak and loss," agrees Sonja.
Founded in 2007, Boy is made up of singer Valeska Steiner and bassist Sonja Glass. The two met while at a pop-music course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg. They immediately bonded over their classical-music training and a mutual love of the French band, Phoenix. Before long, they decided to form a band. In the beginning, they played concerts exclusively, before being discovered and signed to Herbert Grönemeyer's label, Grönland Records, in 2011.. Shortly following that, Boy won the Hamburg Musician Prize HANS in 2011 in the category Hamburgs Newcomer of the Year, and the album won the 2012 European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).
In support of Mutual Friends, Boy will begin their US tour on March 1st in New York.
