New York City indie-rockers, Vampire Weekend, will be releasing their follow-up to 2010's Contra, entitled Modern Vampires Of The City via XL Recordings on May 7th. On March 18th they released a double A-side single, "Diane Young/Step". Vampire Weekend's third album was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Usher, Major Lazer, Charli XCX) and the band's own Rostam Batmanglij. It was recorded in both New York City and Los Angeles.
In an interview with Q Magazine, Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig called this latest effort "dark," "organic," and that it "really does feel like the third chapter in a book." He added: "We created some characters on the first record, some of which are real people, some of which are ourselves, so it's not so hard to keep following them and see what their concerns are now and how their lives have changed."
The members of Vampire Weekend include Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson, and Chris Baio. After forming in 2006 and signing to XL Recordings, the band went on to release their first album Vampire Weekend in 2008, which produced the hit single "A-Punk." The band's second album, Contra, was released in 2010 and included Alternative singles "White Sky," "Horchata," and "Cousins".
Vampire Weekend have a busy spring appearing at SXSW Coachella, and other summer festivals.
