Portugal. The Man
Mar 31, 2013

Indie rock band Portugal. The Man decided to try something new and unveiled the title of their seventh album on Instagram late last month. The two pictures revealed that the album is called Evil Friends and it will be released on June 4th via Atlantic Records. It will be the first Portugal. The Man album produced by Danger Mouse. Their first single is the title track from the album. The video for this lead single appears entirely in a green-filtered night vision that makes frontman John Gourley look like the demented step-brother of Yolandi Visser (of Die Antwoord).
Based in Portland, Oregon, but originally from Wasilla, Alaska, Portugal. The Man grew out of the ashes of Anatomy Of A Ghost, a post-hardcore band whose vocalist and guitarist, Gourley and Zach Carothers, respectively opted to continue working together. Rounding out the new band's lineup was keyboardist/singer Wes Hubbard, himself a veteran of other Alaskan groups. The trio eventually relocated from Alaska to Portland, OR.
Their initial existence in the Pacific Northwest was the typical hardscrabble life of a band with few resources, but drummer Jason Sechrist (formerly of Konmai Defense System) joined to form a more stable lineup. They went on to release their first two albums, Waiter. You Vultures and Church Mouth with Fearless Records. They also put out material on their own imprint Approaching AIRballoons through indie label Equal Vision Records. They are now signed to Atlantic Records.
Portugal. The Man have a busy upcoming spring tour ahead of them with stops throughout California including Coachella and then onto the Bonnaroo Music Festival this summer in Tennessee.
