The Dear Hunter
May 6, 2013

On April 2nd, Providence Rhode Island's The Dear Hunter released their latest album, Migrant, via Equal Vision Records. The band entered the studio in 2012 with producer Mike Watts to record this first album under front-man Casey Crescenzo's new imprint label, Cave & Canary Goods, which is a unit of Equal Vision Records. Migrant is The Dear Hunter's first album that does not have a concept. Crescenzo remarked that the non-conceptual nature of Migrant presented a new challenge:
While Migrant takes a departure from the band's previous use of an overarching concept, it remains true to their signature grandiose sound, fueled by Crescenzo's soulful vocals. For the first time ever, Crescenzo wrote from a first-person perspective, creating twelve of his most emotionally raw, personal and dynamic tracks to date. Musically, songs range from powerful melodic anthems, to a jazzy ballad fueled by keys and arpeggio-laden guitar lines, to a moving duet that highlights the song's captivating vocals, all delicately framed by lush string orchestrations.
"I've been in the rhythm of writing conceptually. It's a challenge for me to be more transparent and more honest and more directly from the heart and not filtering it through something. So I think that was really exciting; it was really refreshing."
The band began as a side project of music mastermind Crescenzo when he was a full-time member of The Receiving End Of Sirens. The Dear Hunter was originally intended as a vehicle for music that Crescenzo had written that didn't fit with the sound of The Receiving End Of Sirens.
The Dear Hunter have been making a theatrical version of ambient hard rock since 2005. Crescenzo, along with his brother Nick, create a full, powerful sound spanning the spectrum of emotion. With a versatile arsenal of driven storylines, each album has been a heroic tale of love and loss.
