Diamond Youth
May 6, 2013
Diamond Youth released their EP, Orange, on February 5th via Topshelf Records/Caroline. Recorded by Brian Mcternan, (Circa Survive, Hot Water Music, The Movielife) it is the follow up to the band's well-received official debut, Don't Lose Your Cool, recorded by Paul Leavitt (Circa Survive, All Time Low). Orange ends up as a sure-footed second step for Diamond Youth, playing to the band's strengths without forgetting to take a few curves along the way.
"Cannonball" is the lead single off this new release, the quartet tapped their heavier influences a bit more this time around, leaving some great dynamics between the swooning choruses ("Separator") and crunching melodies ("Orange") as the EP moves across its six tracks.
Claiming Baltimore as their home, members of Diamond Youth are spread across Richmond and Chicago as well, creating an obstacle in terms of actually practicing as a band. However, using tools of the trade such as 3-way iChat, garage band, and voice note files, the band has released 2 EP's in their short tenure since the summer of 2012. The members of the group include Sam Trapkin, Justin Gilman, Brendan Yates and David Wood.
Now that Diamond Youth's Orange is out, the band will be hitting the road a ton in the coming months in support of it. They will for sure be touring with Cheap Girls & Make Do and Mend this summer.
