Surfer Blood
May 12, 2013

The West Palm Beach, Florida four piece Surfer Blood drop their second album, Pythons on June 11th via Warner Bros. The first single, "Demon Dance" is a shimmering and catchy song. Surfer Blood initially released a fan track from the new album called "Weird Shapes."
The four members of Surfer Blood are: John Paul Pitts (lead vocals/guitar), Thomas Fekete (guitar/backing vocals), Kevin Williams (bass guitar/backing vocals) and Tyler Schwarz (drums). John has cited Bedhead, Pavement and Yo La Tengo as some of his main influences, stays true to his indie-meets-grunge roots in this new single. Surfer Blood manages to weave the two genres through gritty pop vocals, melodic guitars and hard, rhythmic drums.
"The lyrics [of "Demon Dance"] may seem cryptic compared to the straightforward nature of the song, but the song is about the dishonest and cruel people I've encountered against the backdrop of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles," front man, John Paul Pitts explains.
On Pythons, Surfer Blood builds on the pop-punk sounds of their 2010 debut album, Astro Coast, while adding a tinge of the Pixies, with whom they have previously toured, along with an enviable studio sheen. The band's debut single "Swim" gained critical acclaim and the band rode the wave for most of 2010 touring almost without pause.
