Terraplane Sun
Jul 22, 2013

Los Angeles five piece, Terraplane Sun just released their EP, Ya Never Know via newly resurrected Trauma 2 Records on July 16th. The lead single from it is "Get Me Golden." Ya Never Know, named for the third song on the track, is both eclectic and refined. The band pushes boundaries by incorporating harmonica, mandolin, trombone and lap steel, just to name a few, bringing a sound that is new and distinctive. Yet, the EP hones a classic sound that proves their sheer skill and incorporates their Venice beach roots.
Ever since the release of their 2011 album Coyote, the band has been making waves in the music scene. Terraplane Sun is comprised of front man Ben Rothbard, guitarist Johnny Zambetti, bassist Cecil Campanaro, keyboardist Gabe Feenberg and drummer Lyle Riddle. Self-described as "blues indie rock folk dance soul," Terraplane Sun blends all of that and more into a rootsy rock cocktail that defies any specific era. While their music occasionally evokes stylings of The Black Keys or Phoenix, they're not married to any trend or scene. It's just what happens when four-fifths of a lineup is born and bred in SoCal, pulling together just the right recipe of shared and disparate influences.
Front man Rothbard explains, "I wanted to make this a very classic, somewhat vintage-based band, where all the tones were kind of timeless, and let the songs do their thing."
It's their live show where the well crafted songs and varied musical elements combine with raw energy, musicianship and showmanship... forging a powerful connection to the audience each night. The quintet recently announced the addition of three East Coast dates with indie-pop heavyweights Imagine Dragons starting in New York, moving through Nashville and concluding in Cleveland. Terraplane Sun will also be playing at the Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) on August 3rd.
