Open Air Stereo
Jul 28, 2013

Southern California natives, Open Air Stereo have finally released their debut album after having formed 11 years ago. The album, Primates, was released on May 21st via Goomba Music. It is a bright pop rock record that proves good things come to those who wait.
The first single is "Stuck On You" and it's upbeat yet laidback rhythm and catchy chorus make for a perfect radio hit. With each song roughly three to four minutes in length, there's a swift transition between every track, making it an easy listen from start to finish. With a mix of songs written by the band and some co-written collaborations, Primates is an exercise in the tight, economical execution of rock and roll.
Open Air Stereo first appeared on MTV's "Laguna Beach" series. At the time they were being featured on MTV, the band signed to Epic Records. Over a year-and-a-half of writing and recording eventually hit a creative blockade, and the sessions stalled. The band split for about three years, unsure of the future and uncertain that the music they had worked so hard to create would ever see the light of day.
The album's title was inspired by mankind's own evolutionary cousins, giving the band a moment to reflect on their own personal evolution through time, perfecting their craft and going through the growing pains to emerge on the other side as a stronger, leaner, fitter band.
The four-piece consists of Chase Johnson (lead vocals), Nick Gross (drums), Scott Pounds (guitars), and Evan Smith (bass). The band has already played on KROQ's Weenie Roast and toured with bands such as The Killers, The Bravery, Hoobastank, and Candlebox.
