The So So Glos
Sep 15, 2013

Punk-Alternative quartet, The So So Glos are made up of brothers, Alex (vocals, bass) and Ryan Levine (guitar, vocals), their stepbrother, Zach Staggers (drums, vocals) and guitarist, Matt Elkin. Their latest and second full-length album, Blowout was released ON August 6th via Votiv. This album sports bouncy music-hall tunes, cheery choruses and even a jaunty xylophone riff. "Lost Weekend" is their latest single. The video for the song is a hi-def, beautifully filmed New York travelogue that ends with the band members gleefully rocking out on a rooftop. Even in a bigger-budget video like this one, though, all four members come off like furiously charismatic characters.
The brothers have been playing music together since they were kids growing up in Brooklyn's Bay Ridge neighborhood. The only non-relative, guitarist Matt Elkin, joined the band in 2008 after the brothers persistently sweet-talked him into it mere days before their first national tour. Since then, The So So Glos have formed a full-fledged North Brooklyn scene around themselves while honing their musical chops. They have toured the U.S. and Europe extensively on their own and have supported a wide range of acts. They are also recognized for their active participation in the all-ages music venues of New York City and the DIY movement in general.
