Switchfoot is about to release their ninth studio album, Fading West. On September 17th, an EP with 3 album tracks became available on their website as a teaser for the full-length album which will be out on January 14th via Atlantic Records. The lead single from the album is "Who We Are." It is a revealing look at life on the road and also a teaser for more projects to come. Its video offers a keen glimpse at the Grammy-winning San Diego quintet as they canvassed the globe last year, hitting picturesque spots like Bali and Australia with their guitars and surfboards in tow.
"This song takes me back to when our band was first starting out - driving around California stuffed into a minivan with guitars and drums, ready to take on the world," bassist Tim Foreman recalls. "Armed with nothing but a few songs and a wild hope, we were dumb enough to think that it could work. Maybe that's the only way that the world has ever changed, by people dumb enough to try. So here's to everyone who's young and dumb enough to ignore the crowd and believe in who they are."
In early December, Switchfoot will also be releasing their own independent feature film, Fading West. It's a personal in-depth look at the highs and lows of this band of brothers. Touted as "part rock documentary, part surf film and part travelogue," Fading West was directed by Matt Katsolis of Interpret Studios and will be played to audiences ahead of Switchfoot's 43-date national tour, which launched on September 20th in St. Louis.
Switchfoot members include Jon Foreman (lead vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass guitar, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums, percussion), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Drew Shirley (guitar, backing vocals). After early successes in the Christian rock scene, Switchfoot first gained mainstream recognition with the inclusion of four of their songs in the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember. This recognition led to their major label debut, The Beautiful Letdown, which was released in 2003 and featured the hits "Meant to Live" and "Dare You to Move". It went on to sell over 2.6 million copies. They have since been noted for their energetic live shows, and their seventh studio album Hello Hurricane received a Grammy award in 2011 for Best Rock Gospel Album.
