The Colourist
Sep 29, 2013

The Colourist first stumbled upon one another in an underused warehouse in Orange County, CA, where Adam Castilla and Maya Tuttle discovered the harmonic chemistry that has come to define the band's bright and anthemic signature sound.
Having spent much of 2012 honing their live show with the likes of Grouplove, Electric Guest, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., The Colourist begin 2013 holed up in a small studio in Southern California. It's there that Adam Castilla (vocals, guitar), Maya Tuttle (drums, vocals), Kollin Johannsen (guitar, bass), and Justin Wagner (bass, keys) committed their pop-fueled, indie-bred rock to tape before embarking on their first tour which included appearances at Coachella along with support shows with Metric and Youngblood Hawke and Atlas Genius.
The Colourist released their debut EP called Lido on August 20thj via Republic Records. The 4 songs represent a sampling of this band's ability to write smart, engaging songs laced with hooks that leave you wanting more.Southern California four-piece, Their single "Little Games" shows the maturity of their sound, but with a modern twist. While the lyrics are understated and low-key, the delivery couldn't be more exhilarating. The drums hit hard as Adam and Maya vocals spiral around each other in a hate and love affair.
Directed by Dustin Mulstay, the video for "Little Games" utilizes a split screen to reinforce the concept of separation after a romance goes sour. And if that wasn't enough to drive the point home, the breaking wine glasses and smashed wedding cake should do the trick. "What did I do so wrong? You lied and led me on. Was I your hit and run? Left for dead and now you're gone," Adam harmonizes with Maya.
"'Little Games is about being stuck in the vicious cycle of a dysfunctional relationship, where you're being strung along by someone who is more interested in your attention (or attention from anyone) than you," Maya explains. "The video is visually and emotionally chaotic; at times, we don't know whether we're watching anger or lust."
The Colorist played at Coachella earlier this year and support The Naked And Famous on tour through October.
