The Florida-based band, Anberlin, just released their latest album, Devotion: Vital Special Edition, on October 15th via Big 3/RED. "City Electric" is the lead single from this massive collection that features over 40 tracks of remixes, b-sides, and brand new songs, as well as the complete "Live From Williamsburg" acoustic show.
"It's actually a re-release but we wanted to do cooler stuff to it." explained drummer Nathan Young. "We did three new songs and we remixed the whole record as well. We were just like, let's go for it and see what happens."
Formed in 2002, the band consists of lead vocalist Stephen Christian, guitarists Joseph Milligan and Christian McAlhaney, bassist Deon Rexroat, and drummer Nathan Young. Within a year of forming, they had signed with semi-independent record label Tooth & Nail Records and released their debut album, Blueprints for the Black Market. In 2005, the band released their second album, Never Take Friendship Personal, selling in excess of 150,000 copies. The band's third album, Cities, was released in 2007, and became their first album to reach the top 20 of the Billboard 200, selling 34,000 copies in its debut week.
In 2007, Anberlin announced their signing with major label Universal Republic. Their first album with the label was New Surrender and it peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200, with the first single, "Feel Good Drag", claiming No. 1 on the Alternative chart, after 29 weeks in the chart. Prior to the release of their fifth studio album, Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place, Anberlin had sold over 700,000 albums. Their sixth studio album Vital was released in 2012.
Anberlin are currently promoting Devotion: Vital Special Edition on a U.S tour that started on October 2nd and will wrap up November 5th at the House of Blues in Orlando, FL.
"We used to care so much about who do we take out (on tour), what's the right band, explained Young. At this point we're just like, 'you know what, we're gonna tour with The Maine. It fit well, we talked to them, they're rad dudes, we just finished Australia with them."
