Luscious Jackson
Oct 20, 2013

New York's Luscious Jackson return after nearly a 14 year hiatus, consisting of Jill Cunniff, Gabrielle Glaser and Kate Schellenbach. Keyboardist Vivian Trimble left the group in 1998, and in 2000 the group announced their breakup, after releasing one album as a trio. February 2007 saw the release of Luscious Jackson's Greatest Hits compilation. It wasn't until 2011, when the group announced that they had re-united and they were planning to make new music.
Luscious Jackson will be releasing their fourth full-length album, Magic Hour, on November 5th via the band's own label, City Song. The video for their first single, "Show Us What You Got" looks like it came straight out of the '90s, complete with fuzzy NYC subway singing, an in-studio jam sesh, and some Powerpoint-esque lyric slides. Magic Hour was produced by Jill and Gabby, with an assist on the song "So Rock On" from old friend, Beastie Boy, Adam Horovitz. Recently featured in NPR's All Songs Considered fall preview of the season's most eagerly anticipated music.
Gen Xers might remember Luscious Jackson from back in the early 1990s. Blessed with the ability to create an incredibly infectious groove, the group had some alt-rock hits with "Naked Eye," "Ladyfingers," "Citysong" and "Under Your Skin." Between 1993 and 2000, they released one EP, three full length LPs, and 10 singles on the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal label.
Luscious Jackson have a busy fall schedule with appearances planned at The Late Show with David Letterman, Philadelphia's Union Transfer, Webster Hall in New York City and surely more reunion shows to follow.
