Royal Blood
Mar 16, 2014
The Brighton duo, Royal Blood, released their debut single, "Out Of The Black" on February 19th. It's a single that wrings the maximum amount of noise, aggression and pure youthful exuberance out of the most minimal of ingredients, featuring nothing more than Mike Kerr's vocals and bass and Ben Thatcher's drums. The song suggests a promising start for this new up-and-coming band in the alternative rock genre that can bring grunge back to a high place in modern music.
Kerr sings "And I promised you like you promised me," in a low, strong voice, then picks up the intensity. "That the vows we made, we boxed them in for free." Throughout the rest of the track, Kerr keeps up the intensity to amplify the emotion in the song.
The duo rock band was formed in 2013, composed of friends Mike Kerr (Vocals, Bass) and Ben Thatcher (Drums). The band's sound is reminiscent and rooted in modern garage rock and blues rock, while frequently being referred to as similar to bands like The White Stripes and The Black Keys.
The band will be supporting Arctic Monkeys on a pair of dates at Finsbury Park in London in late May 2014.
