The Orwells

The young Chicagoan band, The Orwells, will be releasing a full length album via Atlantic Records this summer but in the meantime, they did release their second EP, Who Needs You last year on September 10th. It is a first-rate set of brash garage-pop com combining jangly guitars, mostly frenetic rhythms and bright pop melodies. The lead single, "Who Needs You" features the hallmarks that make The Orwells such a joy, with youthful energy and lyrics shouted by dynamic singer Mario Cuomo.
Lead singer, Mario Cuomo explains that "'Who Needs You' is about the millions of people who had their history written for them, and how they felt they couldn't escape it. It's about being told what to do, about being told what to believe in - which is, in a nutshell, the story of America's youth."
In January, The Orwells performed on Late Show with David Letterman and their performance was so enthusiastically received that Letterman and others called for an encore. The band did not respond, partly because guitarist Matt O'Keefe had broken all of his strings and physically could not play.
The members of this thrilling, charismatic live band include Mario Cuomo (vocals), Dominic Corso (guitar), Matt O'Keefe (guitar), Grant Brinner (bass), and Henry Brinner (drums). Their debut album Remember When was released in 2012 through Autumn Tone Records. Their first EP entitled Other Voices was released in 2013 via National Anthem Records.
They just wrapped their North American tour as the openers for Arctic Monkeys which began on January 30th.
