Snowmine

The Brooklyn five piece, Snowmine are making big sounds seem intimate on "Columbus" the track from their Dialects album, released on February 4th. The opening passage sounds lifted from a forgotten film orchestration, but the multi-tracked choir, strings, woodwinds, and synths were all laid down at a New York church.
"'Columbus,' as the rest of Dialects, was mostly recorded in a church in Uptown Manhattan," vocalist Grayson Sanders explained. "We didn't use any sampled instruments. Instead we brought in our brilliant friends to contribute chorus vocals and an assortment of orchestrals to the album. 'Columbus' is about the pitfall of hungering for a bigger, or more successful life when all you really needed was the one you left back home where it all started."
Snowmine is made up of five members, Grayson, Austin, Alex, Jay, and Calvin. Each member plays multiple instruments and every sound on the album was created in some way by one of the band members. Bassist Jay Goodman, drummer Alex Beckmann and Grayson Sanders were longtime friends before they decided to take their friendship to the next level and form a band together. They crossed paths with Austin Mendenhall, who plays guitar. Before he joined Snowmine he was playing jazz in Washington DC. Calvin Pia rounded out the group with additional guitar, and was also an old friend. The band has put together an ambient, atmospheric album.
Snowmine is currently making their way cross-country on a tour to support Dialects.
