TV On The Radio have recently shared more details about their forthcoming album Seeds. It will be released on November 18th via Harvest Records/Capitol Records and it was produced by guitarist David Sitek. This collection is the band's first record since the passing of bassist/producer Gerard Smith in April 2011.
"We've been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold," vocalist Tunde Adebimpe said in a statement regarding Seeds earlier this year. "But I'm glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1,000 percent, without a doubt, the best thing we've ever done."
The first single from this fifth studio album is called "Happy Idiot." A skittery, new-wavey beat and nimbly clanging guitar line provide a soundtrack for lyrics about enjoying simplicity ("I'm a happy idiot, waving at cars") but its theme is "ignorance is bliss" - especially when coming off a recently ended relationship. "I'm a happy idiot to keep my mind off you," sings co-vocalist Kyp Malone.
Formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 2001, TV On The Radio members include Tunde Adebimpe (vocals & loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars, keyboards & loops), Kyp Malone (vocals, guitars, bass & loops), Jaleel Bunton (drums, vocals, loops & guitars) and Gerard Smith (bass & keyboards). The group has released several EPs including their debut Young Liars (2003), and four critically acclaimed studio albums: Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes (2004), Return to Cookie Mountain (2006), Dear Science (2008), and Nine Types of Light (2011).
TV On The Radio played Denver's Riot Fest (9/21) and will be embarking on a North American Fall tour. The band is offering people who preorder Seeds through its official online store the opportunity to begin buying tickets for some dates of the tour before they go on sale.
