Julian Casablancas + The Voidz
Oct 9, 2014

Tyranny is the first studio album by Julian Casablancas + The Voidz, which was released on September 23rd by Casablancas's label, Cult Records. The first song from the album, the 11-minute track "Human Sadness", was released on September 2nd. They followed up this song with a second track, "Where No Eagles Fly." Tyranny doesn't hold back for one second.
Its title - according to Strokes front-man Casablancas - refers to exploitation of all forms, "whatever makes profit while ignoring and repressing the truth about whatever suffering it may cause (like pop music, for that matter)", and bold statements such as this one line the seams of their first work.
Formed in 2013 as a side project of Julian Casablancas, the band consists of Casablancas (lead vocals) as well as Jeramy "Beardo" Gritter (guitar), Amir Yaghmai (guitar), Jacob "Jake" Bercovici (bass guitar, synthesizers), Alex Carapetis (drums, percussion), Jeff Kite (keys) and Shawn Everett (production). Both Kite and Carapetis were previously involved with Casablancas' first foray into solo material, forming two of his 'Sick Six' live band, which also featured Danielle Haim.
They are currently touring the Americas, playing various gigs and festivals (including Lollapallooza in Chile, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as Festival Estéreo Picnic in Colombia and Governor's Ball in New York) in support of Tyranny. Alongside 'Tyranny"s UK stream, Casablancas and co. have recently announced dates for their first ever UK & European tour.
