Sum 41
Sep 9, 2016
Sum 41's first official single "War" is from their comeback album, "13 Voices." The album is due out October 7th via Hopeless Records.
Sum 41 front-man Deryck Whibley explains the meaning behind "War," "I feel this song literally saved my life. I was at my absolute lowest point of what seemed like a never ending recovery. I was at a tipping point where I could have easily just given up and went back to my old ways of alcohol abuse which would've ended up killing me, which at the time felt like a better option. When all of a sudden, in mid thought, these lyrics sort of appeared in my head and I grabbed a pencil and paper instead of a bottle and started writing. When I read it back to myself I realized I had written words that I would need to live up to if I wanted to survive. Whenever I had any thoughts of giving up I would read these lyrics myself to remind me that I need to keep fighting harder and what it was exactly I was fighting for."
Formed in 1996 in Ontario, Canada, Sum 41 members include lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Deryck "Bizzy D" Whibley, lead guitarists/backup vocalists Dave "Brownsound" Baksh and Tom "Brown Tom" Thacker, bassist/backing vocalist Jason "Cone" McCaslin and drummer Frank Zummo. They have released five studio albums and have been nominated for seven Juno Awards. The band delivered the chart-topping Alternative single "Fat Lip" and top 10 singles "Still Alive" and In Too Deep" off their debut album, "All Killer, No Killer," 15 years ago.
In support of the new album, Sum 41 will embark on their "Don't Call It A Sum-Back" tour. The trek will kick off on October 5th at the House Of Blues in Orlando and wrap up a month later on November 6th at the Mayan in Los Angeles.
