Cherry Glazerr
Dec 9, 2016
"Nurse Ratched" is the latest single from the L.A.-based trio Cherry Glazerr. The track will be on their forthcoming second studio album, "Apocalipstick," due out on January 20th via Secretly Canadian. This collection was recorded at Hollywood's iconic Sunset Sound studio with acclaimed producers Joe Chicarrelli (The Strokes, My Morning Jacket, The White Stripes) and Carlos De La Garza (Bleached, M83, Paramore). "Nurse Ratched," which was written by lead singer Clementine Creevy as she mused on the evil Nurse Ratched character in Ken Kesey's masterpiece, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. The track's slasher flick video is directed by horror film director/producer Roxanne Benjamin, who is known for her films Southbound and V/H/S, among other work.
Giving a few more clues about what to expect from Apocalipstick, front-woman Clem promises all the humor, feminism, fire, and optimism that the title suggests. "Comedy in music is extremely important to me because humor is all we have as human beings," she says. "['Trash People' is] a fun song about how I have dirty fucking habits. It's about being road rats, nasty ass, dirty fuckers. That's how I like to live." Sasami adds that the track Instagratification is a tongue-in-cheek musing on selfie culture and the frequency of women being shamed for their posts: "Who the fuck cares? If you wanna post a photo of your pussy go for it! The ultimate white privilege is sweating the small shit, judging people for things that don't matter."
Cherry Glazerr is made up of Clementine Creevey, Sean Redman and Hannah Uribe. Clem and Hannah met at Wildwood, the private school they attended in Los Angeles. Clem and Sean met at a summer program at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. When they debuted in 2014 with "Haxel Princess," it received the flurry of local media attention you'd expect for a band fronted by a student from a posh high school and named after an area radio personality.
Cherry Glazerr will embark on an American tour behind the album this winter. See the full list of dates below.
