People call radio stations primarily for two reasons: 1. to win or 2. to help. So, you should consider the emotions behind helping and winning in order to generate more phone calls.
The emotions behind helping are numerous as described here. You could probably conclude that a general reason for helping is “doing good.”
Winning is typically related to benefitting one’s self, and there’s also science behind it as described in this 2015 Fast Company article.
3 EASY WAYS TO GENERATE MORE PHONE CALL
1. Go back through your past show audio folder and find topics that have listeners helping out or benefiting from something. Repeat the DNA of those kinds of conversations.
2. Use benchmarks to help drive consistent interaction.
As an example, for a Contemporary Christian radio station, WOW GOD WEDNESDAY, is a great way for listeners to share stories of God’s evidence in their life. It’s inspiring and contagious.
The use of passionate, opposite opinions can create fun disagreements and natural tension too. For instance, 5 CALLS CALLS IT gets passionate listeners involved to help decide who’s right or which product/opinion is better.
3. Identify 5 to 7 people in your life who are animated, opinionated, and would love for you to call them once a month (or so) to get their crazy POV. Who knows what kind of traction a lively returning guest could get.
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
Interactions can lead to connections. Connections start conversations. Conversations can grow into habits. Habits make fans, and fans become brand advocates and supporters.
