MANY CONTENT CREATORS HAVE THE CAMERA POINTED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION
If you begin your on-air break, social media post, video, or podcast with the words "we" or “I” you have the camera pointed in the wrong direction. Here are a few phrases that I regularly come across:
"We have a big announcement …”
“I’m excited to share ..."
"We’re honored that ..."
“I’m proud to …”The problem with starting with “we” or “I” is that it has nothing to do with the person listening to or watching you. More importantly, you’ve just wasted your bring-in/hook line on nothing that captures the attention of someone who’s probably consuming you passively.
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
Turn the camera toward the listener/viewer and away from yourself, your show, or your radio station as you begin. And for the love of everything, please don’t start a video with,
“Hey guys!” (Yes, I’m restating that again this week). If you missed CONTENT CREATORS (PART 1): INCLUDING WITHOUT EXCLUDING read it here.
