After the past two years it feels like many people are on edge or near a breaking point. It’s all-over social media and in real life. But that’s where you come in.
SPREAD KINDNESS
Think of some ways where you can surprise and delight or super-serve a listener, advertiser, underwriter, donor, or even a teammate. Here are a few idea starters:
-Find someone in your database and send them a handwritten note.
-Get an advertiser’s number from sales and leave them a voicemail.
-Do an on-air break thanking listeners for tuning in.
-Text someone, or better yet, use that new iPhone voice memo feature to appreciate them.
CONTAGIOUS KINDNESS
It’s nice to receive a thank you or an “attaboy.” This slid into my e-mail recently:
“Hey Todd. Wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your All Access blogs! Just about everything you mention …from the "exit,” “Bob Ross,” to “talking to ONE person not a group, and many more of your teachings are so helpful. At times Your thoughts/writings are so like my own strategies/theories and what I attempt to accomplish. You really reinforce and teach what it takes to go from a pretty good broadcaster to a great broadcaster/host. I'm always trying to get better in this very competitive space. Thank you for reading, hope you have a good week!” - Los Angeles On-air Personality
This person’s kindness nudged me to reach out with kindness to a few people in my own life.
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
Your format doesn’t matter. Neither does your day part. Honestly, it really doesn’t matter if you have a microphone in front of your face. You have the power to make a difference in someone’s life. But if you do have a microphone, you have the power to make a positive impact with kindness for hundreds, thousands, or even millions of lives…and that sets you apart from your competition.
After spending 25+ years working at some really great radio stations, Todd launched a coaching and consulting business, Beyond615.com, on March 15, 2021.
