If you’re like me, you have a few favorite follows on social; people who inspire you. One of mine is Chase Dimond, who’s a marketing beast.
Dimond recently posted, "People are extremely self-interested. In the beginning they likely don’t care about you, your company, or your product. They mainly care about themselves and what you can do for them. Marketing is 10x easier when you understand this.”
APPLY THIS TO YOUR RADIO SHOW
Your very first opportunity to help a listener care about YOU is by making the beginning of your break about THEM. Having them join your conversation mentally and emotionally activates their imagination (the right side of their brain). That’s why the bring-in (or hook) line is so vital in helping listeners go from passive to active listening, as well as, helping them to give a rat’s behind about what’s coming out of your mouth.
For example, this is all about you: “I’m gonna be so tired on Sunday morning because of Spring forward.”
This is listener-focused: “Spring forward happens this weekend, and that means you’re gonna lose an hour.”
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
The goal is to transition everyone from the song ending into your DJ break. You’re making it more difficult, and quite possibly losing listeners, if your break starts with your POV and not theirs. Radio is 10x easier when you understand this.
