(Part 1 on Performance Royalties)
It's about freaking time that we get what we deserve! I can't believe it's taken us this long to catch up with the rest of the world. Everywhere else pays the artist for the performance, so why shouldn't American radio stations? Especially if we have the superior music!
Don't forget that labels have been providing music free of charge since the beginning to radio. It costs the label money to not only send a CD single to you (or Play MPE). But some radio stations won't even move a song from medium to heavy without some sort of investment from the label in the form of a trip giveaway, t-shirt shooter, etc. You thought payola was over, but it still exists, just in legal forms.
It's time for radio to meet us in the middle instead of putting the costs to the label.
