1. Brief history / synopsis
I was born in Bronx NY, moved to Orlando FL when I was a little baby, and still live in Orlando. Attended University of Central FL for 2 years for musical theater, but ended up doing Group 1 Crew right after that, so I didn't finish school there. Worked as a waitress as a month, but wasn't really good at it. So that didn't last long. My husband is laughing at me right now because I was really bad at waitressing.
2. What does a normal day at home look like for you?
A normal day at home is anything but normal. We have a 21 month old son, so a lot of it when we're at home, we put a lot of focus on him. We usually hang at home, or go to the park, or run errands before the next time we have to go back out. Take nap time, answer interviews, work that I can get done while he's sleeping. At night, more hang time, visit family, and then go to sleep.
3. What's the song that you just can't get out of your head right now?
Tori Kelly "nobody love". I'm a fan of her, she's a new and up-n-coming artist. I've been fan stalking her for awhile. I think her music and talent is just great.
4. How much do you travel, what are the challenges?
Things are starting to pick up. My album just came out at the beginning of this year. Started off with WinterJam, 3 months, 47 cities....craziness! I think the biggest challenge is just wanting to be with my family. Having to be apart from my son for weeks at a time is very, very difficult and something that I've had to balance out. Knowing that God is going to take care of him, my husband and myself. The goal is to be traveling together as a family in the near future. My husband is out with me now, and we have either grandma or babysitter watch the baby, but hopefully he can come out with me soon.
5. What Artist or Pastor has had the greatest impact on you?
I feel like this is kind of a loaded question....there have been so many artists & pastors who have poured into me and helped me in seasons of my life. Off the top of my head, pastor-wise, my hometown pastors, Frank Reynoso & Johnnie Wilson have been two that have helped me to grow a lot in my teenage years.
Artist-wise, I get impacted & inspired a lot on the road that we get to meet and see behind the scenes and experience life with them, and grow relationship with them. Skillet, Natalie Grant, Kari Jobe are just a few of the many artists that we've gotten to meet along the way of this journey that we've grown with.
6. What's the last book you read? Give me a short summation. How did it impact you?
THE GIFTS OF IMPERFECTION, by Brené Brown. Awesome book, talks about learning to be real and vulnerable with people and yourself. I think we tend to want to have it all together and be perfect but sometimes its getting to that root of things that cause us to really grow.
7. Take us thru a couple songs on your latest project.
The CD is self titled, Blanca. I wanted to keep it simple, and allow people to connect with the voice behind the song. It's so hard to choose favorites....
I love "Greater is He", it's a special song for me because it's talking about a situation that I had to go thru with my mom. She was fighting breast cancer, and so I wrote the song for her during the hardship just because I felt there was nothing else for me to give except my voice in hopes to bring encouragement to me, my family and my mom.
I also love "Forever Love", it's a song I wrote for my husband. I just love the track, I think It's quirky and fun, and is an expression of who we are in our relationship.
The main goal of what I wanted to get across in this album is just being real, true and being everything that God has called you to be. And I feel like the audiences and the people that have heard it so far are really grabbing onto that message, which is an awesome thing to see.
8. Person you'd most like to have a discussion with, living or dead.....Deities are excused from this question
I would love to have a discussion with Michael Jackson. He was the King of Pop, and he brought so much originality and talent to the music industry. So it would be cool to be able to sit down with him and write a song together. That would be awesome.
9. Favorite Bible Verse....life verse?
Joshua 1:9 - It says, have I not commanded you, do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. I've dealt with fear a lot in my life. Anxiety and worry. And I feel like that verse whenever I hear it is a great reminder to rest in the Lord and to know that He's going to be with me in everything that I do.
10. How & when did you become a believer?
I became a believer when I was 17 years old. The Lord had been working on me for awhile, so I believe that was just the icing on the cake. He was pulling on my heart thru my dad, and going to church with my dad. I remember vividly the moment that I gave my life to the Lord. It was at a play at my local church. They were talking about heaven & hell, and it really impacted me and gave me the courage I needed to step forward.
Bonus Questions
1. What's the biggest "God moment" you've ever experienced? Personally or professionally, when has God shown up in a powerful way?
When I had my son. For some reason it was just such a life changing experience for me, and I felt God more in that moment than I ever have before. I felt like I was seeing a miracle before my eyes.
