BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Discography:
- 2015 Hollyn
1. Introduction...Birthplace, schools, jobs, etc?
I grew up in Waverly, Ohio. I went to a Christian school until 8th grade and then transferred to the high school that I graduated from in May 2015. Growing up my "job" was singing whenever I had the chance to; churches, festivals, fairs, all kinds of stuff like that. I'm currently living in Franklin, TN.
2. What does a normal day at home look like for you?
It honestly just depends on what I have going on during the day. Most of the time I'll wake up and go have coffee or breakfast in downtown Franklin, or meet up with some friends and spend the day. I love going to the movies, walking around the mall, and just catching up with the people closest to me.
3. What's the song that you just can't get out of your head right now?
The song that's constantly playing in my head is "I Know U" by Keys and Krates. It's my go to song before shows, and it gets me ready for my set every night.
4. How much do you travel, what are the challenges?
At this point in my life, I love being on the road just as much as being home. I think the reason why that is, is because of the people I have around me when I travel. It is difficult because I miss Nashville and my friends and family, but I love getting to meet fans and do what I love every night. FaceTime is an amazing thing. Ha!
5. What Artist or Pastor has had the greatest impact on you?
My pastor in Franklin, Darren Whitehead, has allowed me to grow in my spiritual walk so much in the last year. Also, I love Oswald Chambers and the way he presents the gospel. It pushes me to expand my knowledge of Christ.
6. What are you reading right now?
To be honest, I haven't had time to get into a good book in the last 6 months. I've been digging deep into the Word a lot, and at the moment, my favorite book that I've been studying is Hebrews. :)
7. Funniest or most embarrassing moment on the road?
I passed out in front of Toby during a writing session. Toby, two guys in Diverse City (Gabe and Dave) and myself were writing a song. We were in an arena side room about the size of a bathroom stall. And I got so lightheaded and dehydrated, that I just passed out. Keep in mind, this is one of the first times I'd ever hung out with Toby, so it was pretty insane. I woke up on the floor thinking it was the next day... It wasn't.
8. Take us through a couple songs on your latest project.
The title of my EP is Hollyn. One of the singles we have released to radio is called, "Alone" and it comes from Psalm 51:11-12.
Basically when we wrote "Alone", we wanted to get across the struggle between our human feelings and the faithfulness of Christ. We know He will never leave or forsake us, but sometimes we mess up so many times, it feels like our sin is too great for him to accept. When in reality, He loves us the same.
"Nothin On You" is a song about how nothing else compares to the joy of Christ. I don't crave success, money, or fame. Those things are great, but who I crave is Jesus, and when I have him, everything else falls into place. These songs are relatable and real and that's what people want to hear, in my opinion. I'm grateful that these songs are impacting people's hearts and souls.
9. What organization/service group are you affiliated with?
I volunteer when I can at People Loving Nashville. It's an amazing organization that helps the homeless of Nashville through sources of food, clothes, and the love of Christ. I am dear friends with the family who started this ministry, and it's simply amazing to watch how the Lord provides for them every week. Check out their website and how you can help out! peoplelovingnashville.com
10. Person you'd most like to have a discussion with, living or dead.....Deities are excused from this question
I would love to sit down and talk to Ruth and just listen to her speak. I've always admired her strength and faithfulness, so it would be cool to hear details that were left out of her story.
Bonus Questions
1. Favorite Bible Verse....life verse?
My favorite bible verse is Habakkuk 3:2 because the Lord is using music, like mine, to make His name famous. Not just the music, but who He is shaping us to be as followers of His son. We get to be a voice for this next generation and for that, I am extremely grateful.
2. How & When did you become a believer?
I became a believer when I was five years old at my Christian school. I remember the day very clearly and the choice that I made. I thank God for saving me at a young age and keeping me from things I could've fallen into.
3. What's the biggest "God moment" you've ever experienced? Personally or professionally, when has God shown up in a powerful way?
The biggest God moment I've ever had was at a church service in my hometown of Chillicothe. It was a night I'll never forget, because I surrendered my whole career and every part of my life to Christ. I believed in Him as my savior, but I gave up the things I'd been holding onto, and then everything else in my life made more sense. It's hard to explain, but it was a day that you look back and think, "I'm glad I obeyed the spirit and let him take control."
