Karaoke Superstars (2001)1) Can you introduce the members of the band using musical history and personality traits?
Dave: Very particular person. Fun and organized.
Brandon: Fearless and funny. Not afraid to get things out in the open.
Melissa: Band mom. Taking care of stuff and never asks for help (stubborn but caring)
Max: Intimidating but gentle. Loving and talented. Musical genius.
Tricia: Funny. Hip and modern but old school when it comes to values and priorities.
2) Do you have funny stories from your visits with radio stations over the years?
First morning show we ever did, the DJ played one of our songs and asked callers to call in and comment. Only one person called in and they said it was a horrible and wanted the DJ to play something else. That's a pretty funny memory.
Anytime we meet with Wally at Total Axxess is always fun. He always asks us to write a silly song or participate in a funny contest like guy versus girl in a chicken match in the hallway. Plus Wally isn't afraid to ask tough questions.
3) What's the message you hope is conveyed through the new album "Rock What You Got"?
God is not giving us more than we can handle. He gives us opportunities every day to glorify him. We need to use each day to learn and don't be afraid to follow your dreams.
4) What's your favorite city/venue to play?
The Vic, Chicago
5) Is there any special story behind your new AC radio single "Crawl (Carry Me Through)?
Tons of stories. Last couple of years, we had people in our families with cancer and other tough situations, when you reach those low points in your life, where you don't know where else to turn. Your walk is now down to a crawl and God meets you there and crawls with you. He doesn't look down on you from above. He is there crawling with you.
6) Was there a moment when you were in the studio, working on the record, that you thought, "Ah-ha! Wow. Now we have a record!"?
When we finally figured out the right arrangement for "Crawl" and "Hey Hey." Both songs were sketchy at first because we didn't know where we were going to go with them. But as soon as we got those nailed down, we knew we had a record!
7) Upcoming tour plans? What's on the books?
"Rock What You Got" tour featuring Superchick with Stellar Kart, Article One and Starlit Platoon
8) What's your favorite song to play live?
"Anthem" is a fun one to play live, high energy and everyone goes crazy as legally possible.
9) If you weren't doing music, what would you be doing? Any idea?
I'd be teaching history at a high school or trying to be an archeologist.
10) Life on the road isn't a cakewalk. How do you guys remain friends while being co-workers?
Taking your own personal space and not being afraid to get some solitude. Having your alone time as best as possible.
Bonus Questions
1) Favorite city to visit:
L.A., Seattle
2) Favorite road meal:
BBQ
3) Any musical guilty pleasures?
Anything catchy and pop: I really like boy bands like the Jonas Brothers.
4) If you could join any band, past or present, which would you join?
Honestly, I would say any band in the grunge area, to be apart of a genre that completely changed music. And the world.
