Krystal Meyers (2005)1) Can you pick one highlight, maybe two, from the past year or so? A lot has changed since the debut album came out.
I think some highlights from the past couple of years would most definitely involve Japan and everything that has happened over there. Also, my various trips to Asia and my new CD ("Make Some Noise") releasing there is definitely a highlight. Oh, and making this new record, that's a highlight, for sure!
2) Do you have funny stories from your visits with radio stations?
One funny story happened two years ago in Japan. I'm in a radio interview with my interpreter and the DJ told me that "Anticonformity" was one of the best songs to play air guitar to. And all of a sudden he stood up during the interview and got all into it, like tuning his guitar, making feedback. Then he just went crazy. For the whole song. In the interview. I died laughing! Maybe it was something where you had to be there but it was really funny!
3) What's the message you hope is conveyed through the new album "Make Some Noise"?
"Make Some Noise" is all about how there are a lot of people who believe that my generation is a dying generation, but through my travels in touring I've seen so many youth wanting to be more involved in their churches, youth groups, schools and colleges, the environment, missions, etc., and I think that's amazing. We have a lot of noise to make! God has instilled a purpose in all of us and we have to be loud about it! In order to make an impact in our world, we have to MAKE SOME NOISE! [Smile]
4) Now, you were a part of this makeover feature with the intern for "Total Axxess." How did that turn out?
The makeover thing for Total Axxess was a blast! It was really funny actually. I'm glad Wally wanted me to be a part of it. We had fun and Ryan was a real trooper!
5) Is there any special story behind your new radio single "Shine"?
"Shine" is about how we all have hopes and dreams, and the Lord has installed a purpose in all of us. It's about going out there and not letting anyone or anything get in the way of your shine. We have a lot to offer so we can't let anyone get us down and take away our Shine! Let the Lord's light shine through. [Smile]
6) Was there a moment when you were in the studio, working on the record, that you thought, "Ah-ha! Wow. Now we have a record!"?
I don't think there was a moment where I wasn't saying "oh my gosh" while making this record. I feel like every track is completely communicated the way that I wanted. I feel entirely myself on the whole thing. It's such a different sound and the writing was a completely different approach, so everything was exciting and new the whole time. I do think I lost it when I heard the music track for "Shine," but I can say that for every track! Haha!
7) Upcoming tour plans? What's on the books?
Next up we are going on the "Revolve Tour," which is going to be amazing. It's an all-girls tour and the audience will be 8,000 to 10,000 teenage girls a night! It's a 2-day event in 16 cities nationwide. I'm so excited! Hawk Nelson, Natalie Grant, Group 1 Crew, and some really amazing speakers will be part of it as well.
8) What were initial thoughts when you heard that your music was making waves over in Japan (if you even remember)?
Everything with Japan happened all at once! It's as if I instantly became something over there. I freaked out when I heard I had the #1 pop single that kicked off the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are legendary and I felt so honored. I'm so blessed to see the Lord working over there and using me!
9) If you weren't doing music, what would you be doing?
If I were not doing music, I would be doing something in the fashion world. [Smile] That is another love of mine.
10) Do you have much time to check out other artists' music? What are you listening to right now?
I love the new Kylie Minogue CD, Robyn, Shiny Toy Guns, Chris Brown and the newest Jimmy Eat World CD (they are amazing).
