Group 1 Crew1) What are some highlights for you guys from the past year?
I think one of the biggest highlights we've had this year is when we were announced as the winners of a Dove award for Hip-Hop/R&B album of the year. It's a pretty amazing feeling!
2) What's the message behind the album "Ordinary Dreamers"?
The message behind "Ordinary Dreamers" is that your everyday person has the ability and power to achieve their dreams. If we look at people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jay-Z, P. Diddy, who have made a major impact in our culture, we might look at them and be like, "Wow! These are extraordinary people." When in reality before we saw the fruition of their dreams, they were just ordinary people like you and me with one big dream! And that's where we got the concept for "Ordinary Dreamers."
3) What's the story behind the current single "Keys to the Kingdom"?
"Keys to the Kingdom" is from a song of a producer/friend Andy Anderson that had a chorus part that we automatically fell in love with when we first heard it. It's a biblical principle that grabbed us as firm believers. Christ died so that he can retrieve the keys that were once taken (forfeited) over to the enemy and put them in the hands where they rightfully belong. But what isn't good is it to have those keys in our possession and not know how to use them to unlock the doors for healing, miracles, etc. That's the foundation of "Keys to the Kingdom," and we just want to encourage and empower every listener to take hold of the authority they have over their present circumstances!
4) What do you hope people leave with after a night with Group 1 Crew?
Hopefully a G1C CD! Hahaha! We just want people to leave our shows inspired to go after their dreams in Christ.
5) What is your favorite city/venue to play?
We recently played in Honolulu and I think that has been our favorite place to ever rock a show!!
6) What are your plans for this fall?
We are on the "Revolve" tour and that will be ongoing throughout the fall. We're just excited to be a part of such an amazing event!
7) Was there a moment in the studio, working on "Ordinary Dreamers," that you thought, "Ah-ha! There it is! Now we have a record"?
Well, we have certain songs that when finished convinced us that these songs would make "Ordinary Dreamers" a great record. However, because music evolves so quickly these days, it's always a scary thing 'cause you never know what the next hot sound will be.
8) What's your favorite song to perform live?
Our favorite song to perform on stage would probably be "iContact" just because it's something fresh and different from anything we've ever done.
9) Do you have much time to check out other artists' music? What are you listening to right now?
Yeah, many times at our shows, depending if we have time, we like to go check out the opening acts just because we like to hear other artists and support them. Right now we're not really listening to anything other than our CD so we can learn all of our material.
10) Do you have any humorous or interesting stories from radio visits in the past year?
It's always interesting when we go to visit Wally at "Total Axxess" in Nashville. We never know what he has up his sleeve. Last time we were there, he had has us sing a good night song to his daughter on the air.
