Dying for a Heart (2006)
Krystal Meyers (2005)1) Where did your journey in music begin? Has it always been a dream or goal to be a "rock star"?
It has been a dream of mine to be a musician since I was a little girl. I was never interested in doing anything else! My first solo was at age 5. I started writing at 10 and playing guitar at 13. It's such a blessing to be doing this at such a young age.
2) As a songwriter, what's your barometer for a good song?
Well, I'm a big critic when it comes to my lyrics, so I can be pretty hard on myself. However, when I really feel I've got something, I know it's from my heart. When I am able to communicate something that completely matches how I feel, that's the point where I know I have what I want.
3) You've made a couple of trips to Japan and have another one coming up. What have those experiences been like? Have you done much travel outside of the States other than that?
All of my trips to Japan have been absolutely amazing! God is doing such a work in that country and it is so cool to have had a No. 1 single (May 2006 - International Radio Chart) that knocked the Red Hot Chili Peppers out of the No. 1 spot! God is so good. The only other place I've played outside of the states is Japan and Germany.
4) What's the story behind your current single "The Beauty of Grace"?
The story behind "The Beauty of Grace" is being able to understand that no matter the baggage that's in your life, or the scars that you bear, that when you feel like there's no one you can open up to, there is God. He is always there no matter where you are. His mercy and grace are new every morning. He doesn't keep a record of the things you've done! It's about being able to hide yourself in Him and know that He is not going to judge you and turn you away.
5) What is the message you hope to convey through DYING FOR A HEART?
The message I want to convey is found in the title, DYING FOR A HEART. Ultimately as Christians, we understand that that's what Christ did for us on the cross. He died for our hearts so we could have communion and a relationship with Him. On a more universal scale, it's about how no matter who we are or where we come from, our hearts are constantly looking for a place to call home. We want to find answers and resolve. I wanted to use this record to shed light on where I find that hope and encouragement!
6) What's your favorite song to perform live?
It's a tie between "The Situation" and "Can't Stay".
7) Any interesting or funny radio experiences so far?
There was a radio DJ in Japan that said that he was obsessed with playing air guitar while he was listening to music. So, he turned up "Anticonformity" and went crazy! He acted like he was messing with the amp and petals and everything. The amazing thing was, he was serious!
8) Why do you pursue this life of making records and touring and playing shows? And how do you keep yourself grounded and out of the celebrity clouds?
I know that this has been what God has called me to do ever since I was little. It's my passion and my heart. It's a ministry for me and that's the important thing to remember. It's not for fame and fortune; it's for God's glory!
9) Imagine life without a career in music. What might you like to try your hand at?
I don't know, that's pretty hard to imagine! However, I honestly would love to do modeling or fashion design.
10) Do you remember much of Southern California? What do you like most about living in Tennessee?
I don't remember living there, but I have spent a lot of time in Southern California since we moved to Nashville. I love Tennessee! Nashville isn't a place I'd recommend for visiting for tourist types, but it's the perfect place to live. I have traveled so much, and coming back to Nashville is the only thing that can feel like home. God brought my dad's work to Tennessee and I'm so glad. I never want to leave!
