The Glorious Revolution (2007)1) Briefly introduce the band members.
I (Matt) am our 6-foot, 5-inch frontman who has the ability to grow a full beard in a week. R.T. is our bassist in addition to being the comedic relief in almost any situation. Steven is our resident technological genius, and he also plays a killer lead guitar. Josh is "Animal" from The Muppets. That's it. He's actually a muppet.
2) Offer a brief history on the band.
I (Matt) met Steven in elementary school, Josh in middle school and RT in high school, and have been best friends with them ever since. Steven and I were playing the coffee shop circuit and decided we'd rather play rock music. So naturally, we asked our best friends who didn't know anything about drumming or bass playing. The rest is history.
3) Does the band have an end purpose or a mission in mind at all?
We're very serious about creating a lasting community among our listeners. God has given us a great gift through the friendship between the four of us and if we can extend that gift to our fans, then I feel as though we'd have done something with our career.
4) Any interesting or funny radio experiences/stories happen yet?
I think perhaps the oddest thing I've done on the radio happened when we were on "Total Axxess" in Nashville. I was given a hearing test on air and realized that playing rock music may be bad for my ears.
5) What's the story behind the single "Let Go"?
"Let Go" was born while in the process of writing songs for our record with producer Jason Ingram. I was personally having problems with co-writing with other people because I didn't want to share 'my' songs. Jason and I were discussing my struggles and this song came to the surface. It's about letting go of those selfish things that you think are so important. It's about focusing on what God has for you instead of what you think you're supposed to have.
6) What exactly is the 'glorious revolution'?
It's our cry as a band to fall out of pace with the world's standards and to walk in step with God instead.
7) What does the phrase "New Music, More Often" mean to you?
Instead of releasing new material every year and a half to two years like most artists, we'll be releasing new albums every eight months or so. This is really exciting to us because not only will we be allowed to create and be in the studio (which we love) sooner, our fans will be able to be satisfied with new music, more often.
8) Which do you enjoy more: the process or the performance?
I love both so much it would be hard to choose. Being able to create something that expresses both my struggles and victories is very therapeutic for me. God has used songwriting to be a healing agent on several occasions because I was able to release some things that I normally couldn't. But playing live is unbelievably moving also. To see people react to your music is unlike any other feeling. It's emotional.
9) What is your favorite song to perform live?
As of late, "You Belong to Me" has really become my favorite. We've worked really hard in our practice area to do it justice to the album version and we've added something to the end of the song that really makes me emotional every time it's performed. It's become one of those songs that I truly feel like I'm in worship when I sing it.
10) Do you also consider yourself master videographers?
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. Never. We're very interested in video as an artistic medium and we'll continue to make videos through our whole career but I would hardly say we've mastered it. Ask me again in 10 years.
Bonus Questions
1) Who would be a dream artist to record with?
Sigur Ros. They create some of the most beautiful audio landscapes I've ever heard and I'd love to be a part of something, anything of theirs.
2) Any musical guilty pleasures?
Rihanna, "Umbrella." I don't know why I would be embarrassed that I like this song but I am for some reason. It's amazing though. Good changes, good lyric, amazing drum beat.
3) Any practical jokes on the road?
There are several that are secret and still in the works. If I told them to you, then the other guys would find out.
