TITLE:Network Morning Show Co-Host/Network MDSTATIONS:WAY FM/CHRSNMARKET:Nashville & A bunch of others throughout the network!COMPANY:WAY FMBORN:12/15/68RAISED:Southern California, but call Washington State "Home"
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Got my start at KPLU/Tacoma, WA. From there it was KFFM, KHHK, and KXDD/Yakima, Wa...then to Memphis, Portland, Maine, Tallahassee, Oshkosh WI, and Wichita, KS before coming to Way FM here in Nashville. Next, I'm going GLOBAL! WHOO HOOO!!!
1) What was your first job in radio? Early influences?
My first job was weekend overnights at KPLU/Tacoma, WA. I grew up wanting to be Shauna from KLOS/Los Angeles...loved the entire crew there back in the 80s. Along with everyone, pretty much, in Seattle radio!
2) Describe your role on the morning show?
My role is to be the voice of the listener. I feel like I'm on track most when people say, "I thought the exact same thing!" Also, always, to make my partner look good. (Right Jeff!?!?)
3) How do you prepare for your show each morning? What's your biggest challenge each morning?
I read everything! I am constantly on my laptop, fleshing out topics that I think our listeners not only care about, but also will be entertained by. But as much as I think I have come up with the greatest bit, its always that weird little thing, like how my partner is eating Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, that turns out to be the best bit!
4) What has made your show successful?
Phenomenal coaching via Tommy Krammer, John Frost, and our network PD, Dave Senes. A great partner who makes my life sooo easy, and just being real.
5) What is your favorite morning show feature and what makes it successful?
Anytime my mom and dad are on the air. It's not a benchmarked deal, but whenever they are on, it's just like everyone's insane parents. Particularly when they call to tell me what my weather is...it doesn't matter that I do the weather! I'm still their baby and they worry!
6) Best advice for making a morning show for a Christian station?
BE REAL. The best advice I can give is to just to be yourself, and be real.
7) Who do you look up to as a morning air/personality not at your station?
So many, I'm such a radio geek...but Chris O'Kelley in Augusta GA, because he can do any format and fit it. Jon Ballard at WWDZ/Washington, DC cuz he's such a goof but always makes me laugh and Steve Slaton at KZOK/Seattle. He's a legend, and one of the classiest guys ever.
8) If you were just starting out in radio toady, but you knew what you know now, would you continue forward?
ABSOLUTELY! I would just have gotten shorter leases in some markets I was at!
9) If you could have any job outside the music business, what would it be?
Wow...any job...I would be a travel book writer-free trips! Sign me up! Or a pastry chef, I love baking!
10) If you could ask God about anything, what would it be?
I would really like to just tell Him, "Thank You for loving me, no matter what."
