And Here I am!1. What made you want to get into the music business?
I have always loved music and really had a passion for how God uses it to impact lives. The other side of that is, I would have never made it as an artist, so the business side fits just fine.
2. What do you think is the most important topic facing the Music Business and Radio right now? Why?
Digital Media and Distribution. We are an increasingly mobile and active generation. Consumers want the most convenient means of obtaining new media. We are tired of limited options and playlists. This has brought challenges to radio. They are at a crossroad and have a huge opportunity to do something big or pay the price. I do feel that Industry leaders see the importance of "added value," to listeners and are trying to step up to the plate by implementing format changes ("Less is More") and new HD technology. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
3. What does Christian Radio need to do in order to break through to a mass audience on a more consistent basis?
I think overall Christian radio is doing a great job. It is amazing to hear stories each day about how radio is encouraging peoples' individual walks with God. Only advice would be to play great music and push the envelope with new songs and technology. People are ready for it.
4. Biggest changes in the industry you would like to see happen?
I would like to see people in the Christian Industry get re-energized and passionate about what we are doing. It is exciting to see so many talented people working together for 1 common goal.
5. What do you like best about your job?
Getting to rock out every day! When people ask me what I do for a living, it's like I almost feel guilty. I get to go into work, break out the latest track, blast it, and the best part is our team's job is to get other people excited about it. You also can't beat working with a really great team of people that are passionate about what we are doing.
6. Who has had the biggest impact on these facets of your life: Personal, Professional and Spiritual? Why?
My wife has definitely had the biggest impact on my life. She challenges me in every way to be a better person both personally and Spiritually. It would take too long and you would bore with all the details but simply put "SHE IS AMAZING".
7. If you could have any job outside the music business, what would it be?
At this point in my life, there is nothing that I would rather be doing. If I become independently wealthy later, the plan is to buy Bleeker Street Records in NY, a vinyl record shop like the one on High Fidelity, sit around all day and be a vintage vinyl record snob (since no one will be buying them, it should be a pretty easy career).
8. What book have you read that has touched you or taught you the most?
The B-I-B-L-E, No, really I've read several books and many of them have had some impact, but I would definitely say the Bible overall. I made the decision a couple of years back to read through it with the Bible in a year thing. Well 2 1/2 years later, I actually finished and wow! I had been a Christian for several years and had no idea what was in that Thing. I think it is important for us to know what we believe and why we should be passionate about it. You should check it out sometime.
9. What is your favorite passage of Scripture?
Proverbs 3:5-6
10. What is your favorite quote?
"Good judgment comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgment." --Mark Twain
Bonus Questions
1. What's in your CD player right now?
This is an unfair question for new media users, but I guess it would take to much time to list all the songs on the ipod. We will just go with what's in the CD changer: "Extraordinary Machine" - Fiona's new album, Stevie Wonders "Greatest Hits", MuteMath (where's the new material?), Sara Evans, The Killers, and one of our latest releases, George Huff - "Miracles". All are great albums.
2. Do you have Musical Guilty Pleasures?
"Justified" Justin Timberlake
3. Cat or Dog person?
Neither, I would have enough trouble keeping a fish happy!
4. Favorite TV program of all-time?
Alias, until they blew it with the 4th Season!
