1. Please tell us how 2020 changed your relationships?
Wow, it changed all of them, I think. The first place I go is my immediate family. We were able to spend more time together than we ever have and it was really incredible. My wife and I learned new ways to communicate and co-parent... we honestly did really well in this season because of it, and thanks to A TON of grease... mostly from her given to me. Being with my kids was life changing and honestly has changed my relationship with my career and how I’d like to move forward with it.
It also showed us the valuable relationships in our lives we really missed and some of them that we didn’t. I think I gained a few really great friendships this year that were unexpected but welcomed.
2. Share the most challenging part of the past year.
Initially it was the financial impact... that was really huge at first.... Then it was more about finding the opportunity within the loss. God really provided for us in incredible ways.
I actually played about 20 outdoor drive in shows which required more work than anything I’ve ever done in my life. I did them all for free and only asked for donations. I had to work with local health departments and governments to maintain our covid protocol but every night was such an incredible experience. We had well aLended events and some that were very small in rural towns but each one was very special and God moved in really incredible ways.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was...
I think this is something we’ve al heard but been forced to learn this year... Slow down, and enjoy the ride... especially with little kids. I’m trying to figure that one out all the time.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
I’m in constant search of how to personalize and make sense of my faith. I’m trying to learn more and more how to act like Jesus... Theres A LOT that I’m not sure of about a lot of things but Jesus has given us a great example of how to love others and treat everyone with respect and honor.... So, I start there.
5. Share about that new song of yours.
I’m actually wrapping up my brand new record right now! Over quarantine I found myself writing a lot but not really thinking a lot of it. When it came to me to start discussing new music and begin that process I realized I had about 60 songs written and I hadn’t event felt like I had started yet! So these songs really feel lighter to me in a lot of ways. They came naturally and easily, they’re uplifting and joyful... I was really writing as a response to 2020 as a whole and how I hope we could react to it. Overall, I’m so happy with how everything has come together and I’m excited to share the music with you!
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
My Dad. He’s my hero in every sense of the word. I still call him about every major life decision. He’s one of my best friends.
7. What would surprise people most about you?
I’m weirdly insecure... and I really want you to like me... haha. It’s true. I care way too much. I’m working on it.
8. What’s on your nightstand?
Well, My wife just replaced our bedside tables so its really clean right now... a lamp, a couple watches, a phone charger, etc...
Before that though... lots of books... I think I found my 2018 taxes on there this year, haha, no lie.
9. What are you most excited about this year?
Playing shows again with people... but in a way that us sustainable and maintains my new outlook from this past season of life.
