10 Questions with ... Darren Mulligan from We Are Messengers

1. Please tell us how 2020 changed your relationships?

It’s really brought into focus the importance of community in my life and the need to be intentional about maintaining friendships that matter. It’s way to easy to drift into isolation in general but even more so during a pandemic.

2. Share the most challenging part of the past year.

It’s been really difficult not getting to connect with our audience on the road. The biggest thrill that we get is being with our fans at shows and hearing them sing these songs back over us and sharing in their joy, laughter and tears like a family should.

3. Some really great advice you received recently was…

“Love God not for what he does for us but because He is beautiful”… from my friend Toby Mac.

4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?

The Bible, I want a first hand faith, one built on the truths of the scriptures. Relying solely on other peoples expression of faith through teachings, podcasts, music etc leaves me with a second hand experience. Those can be great companions on my faith journey but I want the real deal and I’ve gone back to basics. There is peace there.

5. Share about that new song of yours.

15 brand new WAM tracks coming soon, the new album is done. I could tell you how special I think it is but I’m gonna trust you to come to that conclusion without any hyperbole using your ears and heart.

6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?

My wife Heidi is the reason I met Jesus, the catalyst for my life changing and honestly the reason I’m still alive. I’ve let her down a thousand times and still she holds my hand. She is the best example of what Jesus looks like in my life.

7. What would surprise people most about you?

I’m not always intense, I do a lot of Dad dancing and a lot of laughing. I love checking the weather forecast and I’m addicted to arm wrestling videos on youtube.

8. What’s on your nightstand?

Nothing but a picture of my wife and I. I hate clutter, I really hate clutter!

9. What are you most excited about this year?

Playing shows, watching my middle son play for Tennessee soccer club, swimming with the kids, spending some more time in Ireland, shaking hands with humans, releasing new music and a brand new WAM album, lets go!!!

10. What do you do for fun?

Ha, I watch excessive amounts of Cobra Kai, play tennis, soccer, watch way too much sports on TV especially UFC. I like to drink coffee and play John Mayer poorly on my Fender acoustasonic. However, my favorite thing in the world is hiking through forests, around lakes and over Hills near our wee home in Ireland with Heidi and my kids.
