1. Please tell us how 2020 changed your relationships
I have been traveling over 150 days every year for the past eight or nine years because of my job. So, the chance to spend so much time with my wife and three kids was one of the biggest blessings I have ever received in my entire life. We prayed daily throughout quarantine for people who were sick and the people on the front lines facing this virus every day but also constantly asked Jesus to help us to make every moment count that we were together. I will value time at home differently forever.
2. Share the most challenging part of last year
I called middle of my life to sharing the Gospel through music - so not being able to reach out to people face-to-face and share that hope was a real challenge. But, it has me fired up to go back out now that things are opening up.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was...
When the Bible says “love the neighbor,” it never says anything about them having to love us back. We are simply called to love.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
I am a podcast junkie, so I love feeling my ears with great conversations by wise people. We also are connected to a small group that we love and a church that we serve in.
5. Share about that new song of yours
Walking Free is my post 2020 anthem! We’ve been caged up and held back for a long time: I’m ready to go somewhere and this song is the soundtrack of step-by-step following Jesus.
6. Tell us about someone you really respect and why
My dad. I get to have a job that I dreamed about as a kid. My dad has worked at a Paper Mill for 40 years. When he was a kid he never colored pictures of working at a factory or told his parents that it’s what he wanted to do when he grew up. But for 40 years he has driven to the same job so that he can be the REAL thing he’s always wanted to be: a good dad. He’s worked hard to provide for our family, make time for his kids, and has been an incredible example as a faithful man of integrity. It has pushed me to be faithful to the things God put in front of me just like he has for so long.
7. What would surprise most people about you?
I am naturally introverted. I love people a lot but I never want to be the center of attention. I have to hype myself up in crowds and take time to recharge my batteries.
8. What’s on your nightstand?
Charging station for my phone and headphones, a lamp, remote for our TV, and my contacts case. I have to take my contacts off when I get in the bed because if I took them off before that I would run into everything on my way to the bed 😂
9. What are you most excited about this year?
Heading out on tour with MercyMe this September - bringing a full band and lots of fun surprises. Also about to take my first writing trip to start working on new songs. After a lot of time waiting around, it’s so exciting to dream about taking new leaps in music!
10. What do you do for fun?
I love playing games: Sports, boardgames, basically anything competitive. You can find me and my wife most nights after the kids go to bed, breaking out a card game and listening to music on our back porch. Our current go to is “Uno Flip.” Proceed with caution - it’s a wild one.
