1. Share about that new song/album of yours.
“God, Turn It Around” is a song that started as a prayer. I had just gotten off the phone with my dad, and was brought to tears by God’s goodness in the redemption of our relationship. I literally looked up and said, “God, You really do turn things around”. Then, with the hope that He would do it for anyone else asking, I went to the piano and played for hours. I truly believe that He is up to something, and can turn anything around for His glory.
2. Share a challenging part of the past year.
One of the most challenging parts of last year was knowing so many people who have experienced various losses. It brings me to my knees in prayer. And, I’m reminded of who God is in these moments and the importance of relaying that hope to others.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was…
Give grace, not just because it’s your duty as a Christian, but even more because of the limitless grace He has given you.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
For me, sometimes I start my time on piano, then prayer, and then scripture. Other times, starting in silence helps me hear him louder and more clearly.
5. Share how you balance creating, recording, and performing.
This year I’m trying a different approach. Truth is, they’ve all seemed to weave together at times… which I like. But this year I’ve decided to try what I call the “sustain pedal” approach. The more you play the same chords while holding the sustain, the more resonant it becomes. So, starting with creating, I’m asking God to take this season of creating and do as He pleases. As well as the other seasons for the other portions. They’ll still all mesh in some way, but I believe being more intentional in it will prove itself to be powerful.
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why.
One of the people I respect the most is Dan Pitts. Most people know him as an Artist Manager, but I have the privilege of calling him a friend and mentor as well. His love for God and others is a direct reflection of his relationship with Christ, and his example to me has been incredibly impactful.
7. What's one thing that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I was a computer science major and thought about going into the Marines. What’s ironic is that my younger brother who never knew those were my aspirations, ended up following that exact path.
8. What’s your favorite room at home and why?
Maybe I’m one of the few people that puts a Christmas tree in a back sunroom, but that’s how much we love that room year-round and do life in it.
9. What’s something you’re looking forward to?
I am always anticipatory of what God has in store for my kids as I watch them grow up and be involved in various things. I am also very thankful for the opportunities He has given me this year, and I am really expectant with music, writing, and the collaborations that are unfolding.
10. What do you do to chill and unwind?
To chill and unwind, as a family, we love playing basketball, other games, and watching whatever Marvel puts out next. I also enjoy playing some kind of instrument at home.
