1. Share about that new song/album of yours.
Faithful is the intersection of Psalm 139 meets the story of the prodigal son. Where can I go from your spirit? Where can I hide from your face? Truth is, there is nowhere I can outrun the presence, the spirit, the mercy, the love, and the grace of my savior. Nowhere. Even when I am faithless, he remains faithful, because He cannot deny himself. He cannot deny the finished work of the cross. And just as the prodigal son came to his senses in Luke 15, the moment I repent and turn to God, I am no further from home than I have ever been. Better yet, He is chasing after me to meet me right where I am. He doesn’t need a better, more cleaned up version of me to love. He loves me right where I am.
2. Share a challenging part of the past year.
Our sweet daughter, Chancey Grace, was born this past July with clubbed feet. It’s a condition my wife and I admittedly knew next nothing about when we received the diagnosis. Essentially, she was born with special feet that are turned in, and there’s really no explanation as to why. If not treated, she likely would never to be able to walk. But we are so thankful for the amazing doctors at Scottish Rite. They are a gift from God, and our sweet little girl is eight months old now, crawling all around the house, and on track to walk like any other normal little girl! Through all the treatments and doctor’s visits, two things have remained constant – Chancey’s joy and our God’s faithfulness. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was…
The sovereignty of God is undefeated.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
I try my best to spend time in the Word daily. One of my favorite devotionals right now is “New Morning Mercies” by Paul Tripp. It’s such a great daily read that digs into Scripture and always helps set my mind and heart on the Lord. Couldn’t recommend it enough!
5. Share how you balance creating, recording, and performing.
Writing and recording ebbs and flows depending on the season and if there’s anything I feel like I need to say, or better yet, that the Lord is saying to me. That’s when the songs flow. Worship leading and performing, on the other hand, are constant and something I love getting to do all the time.
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why.
My Dad. Being a father of two little kiddos now, let’s just say that I’ve had my fair share of moments asking how in the world do I do this? And how did my Dad do this? It’s funny how that happens… He loves Jesus and he is a great Dad. And at the end of the day, I just want my family to say the same things about me.
7. What's one thing that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I once was a guest of the day at a La Quinta Inn and Suites. Didn’t sleep a lick.
8. What’s your favorite room at home and why?
Our Family Room. We’ve got a big couch and it’s the place to hang!
9. What’s something you’re looking forward to?
The release of my new full-length record coming later this year. It’s hands down my favorite work that I’ve gotten to do yet and I believe some of the best songs I’ve written.
10. What do you do to chill and unwind?
Netflix (and Apple TV and) and chill!
