1. Share about that new song/album of yours.
The story of the last six years for us is wild! From the moment we decided to continue as a band we began a journey that was incredibly challenging and probably should have ended multiple times. As a group we felt like we were doing exactly what God wanted us to do, but sometimes the challenges seemed insurmountable. Now, looking back, it is amazing to see how God seemed to be in everything, in both the challenges and the accomplishments. How in the moments when we thought we were done, just the right thing would happen at just the right time. Honestly, we don’t fully understand why sometimes, and there are days we still feel overwhelmed by what we have been called to participate in, but we don’t ever want a day to go by where we don’t show our gratitude to the Creator for directing us to this place. Our new song, Won’t let me, go is our prayer of thankfulness as we are able to see in hindsight how God brought us through those difficult seasons, but it is also a statement of faith for what is coming!
2. Share a challenging part of the past year.
Uncertainty. Nobody really knew what the future was going to look like. I mean we still see so much fear in our world, so that hasn’t really changed, but last year we weren’t even sure if we would ever really get to play live shows again. So I think the hardest thing was worrying about things that were completely out of our control.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was…
It’s best to not worry about things you can’t control…. We should have learned that lesson by now.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
By trying to imitate Him. By believing in Him enough that it shapes every action and word, by making His way my way, and by being aware that He is with me at every moment of every day and not just in quiet times and prayer times.
5. Share how you balance creating, recording, and performing.
I think everything we do in a band comes in seasons. Writing is always one of our favorite things and so I’m not sure we ever really stop being creative, but the other things come with territory. We are just blessed to still be able to still tour and make recordings!
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why.
People who work in the trenches, the ones who never get limelight but are more like Jesus than many of us who get on stages and write books. One of those people is Chris Everett who runs a non profit called the GAP in Toledo, Ohio. Go check him out and you will understand why!
7. What's one thing that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m not terrible at sports.
8. What’s your favorite room at home and why?
The kitchen, cause that is where the best conversations take place.
9. What’s something you’re looking forward to?
Lot’s of things, mostly family related, but I am looking forward to playing festivals this summer. Festivals feel so nostalgic for me, I actually just like walking around and looking at the booths and such.
10. What do you do to chill and unwind?
It’s actually harder for me to get wound up and not be chill, so I dont have to do much! But I love to read, and have good conversations. I do love action movies, and will usually relax to a little Nat King Cole or someone else from that era.
