1. Share about that new song/album of yours.
I have a brand new album out called Grace in The Wilderness. It may be my favorite group of songs I’ve ever released. From the vibe of the title track, through worship anthems, and feel good pop songs, I’m so proud of it. My latest single, Authority (in the name of Jesus) is a song I wrote with some good friends at a Mav City camp. It’s simple and powerful message never left me and after Mav cut a version of it over pandemic, I decided to do a version of my own. I’m so excited for the world to here this song and the rest of the record.
2. Share a challenging part of the past year.
This past year I’ve been focusing on not returning to the normal craziness of this business and busy life. Although the pandemic was challenging in so many ways, it really helped set a precedent of being available and home for my family. So this year I’ve been making a concerted effort to limit my schedule and be present at home. That comes with it’s own difficulties and sacrifices both externalyl and internally but I’m attempting to manage it and trust that God will provide for my family and give me peace.
3. Some really great advice you received recently was…
Try to imagine what it’s like to experience yourself as someone else interacting with you… are you kind, gentle, loving? Do you have self control, empathy, compassion? A practice of introspection and self awareness. Without self awareness, it’s difficult to be aware of others and of where God is moving.
4. How do you continue to deepen your relationship with Jesus?
Through relationships with people who relate to Him.
5. Share how you balance creating, recording, and performing.
It comes in seasons - I write constantly for myself and lots of other people. Probably 3-4x a week. I’m trying to play only 1 weekend per month this year. My recording process happens fairly quickly and in blocks, so that’s easy to schedule. The harder part is how to balance being a dad and husband and decent person in the midst of it all.
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why.
Tim Timmons has become one of my best friends. My life is better because he is in it. I’m grateful for his influence in my life. I’ve learned a lot about who God is by being in relationship with Tim.
7. What's one thing that most people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m deaf in my left ear. (Some people may know that by now)
8. What’s your favorite room at home and why?
My studio! I have a whole floor to myself where I can write and record. It’s amazing.
9. What’s something you’re looking forward to?
Watching my kids grow up and getting old with my wife.
10. What do you do to chill and unwind?
This summer it’s the pool, for sure - every night it’s binging old tv shows from when we were kids. I also stay really active and workout every morning. It’s like a version of church for me. It helps me focus and set the stage for the day.
