1. Share a moment in your career that you’ll always remember.
Driving through the gates of the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville, North Carolina for my pre-hire meetings with the staff at The Light FM. Two things were overwhelming. First the presence of Holy Spirit and, second, the overwhelming feeling of being a wretch like me. How sweet the sound!
2. If you weren’t working in radio what else do you think you’d do?
Run group therapy sessions for people in radio! I’m kidding (kinda). It’s a funny question for me because I’m in radio but I’m really not. I’m in love with the idea of content and distribution and radio is an amazing vehicle. I think I’d be in a space that finds a way to spread the Gospel. So, I guess there would not be an answer to that because I’d end up back here.
3. Some great advice you've received is…
Figure out how and WHY things work… and …. Don’t take yourself so seriously… and … the best advice ever… you should check into Jesus.
4. How do you continue learning and growing?
I would love to tell you that I have this amazing discipline to study 14 hours a day, make 35 networking calls, work 40 hours per week, an hour of quiet time every day, and have an awesome family/work-life balance. The truth is, I learn from people. I’m motivated to discover, so I pursue. The Lord puts me in places where I learn and elevate. My season right now is discovering this new space called Christian Radio (fairly new to me). I’m excited to meet, learn, live, and laugh here. I’m a consummate contrarian so He has me in an uncomfortable place of launching into a space where all that I know is conditioned by the mission. I’m so looking forward to the future… when I can practice my contrarian roots and actually be helpful for the mission and, prayerfully, the industry.
5. What’s one thing you wish you’d known about radio when you first started?
Telecom Act of 1996.
6. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
My wife. She’s amazing in all ways. Seriously! It’s kinda like that razor commercial… I was so impressed, I married her! As a wife she is my soul mate and God arranged our meeting and union. As a business person she operates The Show Must Go On! and I am constantly astonished and surprised by the connections she makes because of the person she is. For example, when I come home and she says, I talked with DeSantis today and he said…
7. What’s something about you that would surprise most people?
I love underwater macramé! I have six belly buttons. Actually, what is surprising is how unsurprising the “me” is and continues to be. Surprised? See how that works.
8. What’s your favorite room at home and why?
We currently live in an apartment, which is temporary, so I’m trying not to get attached. The break up would be far too hard on the apartment! Under normal circumstances, probably the kitchen when cooking (another creative outlet for me).
9. Finish this sentence: My day doesn’t start properly until I...
Pray
10. What do you to unwind and chill?
…what’s that…. Actually, I love hangin’ out with my wife in any of our explorations… beach, drives, awesome restaurants, movies, being with friends.
