1. How in the world did you even get into radio?
I was on a High School Quiz Bowl team (nerd alert). The competing H.S. had a teammate who was a DJ at our little hometown radio station (WJNR in Iron Mountain, MI). He told me the station needed a weekend overnight DJ and that if I could talk on the Mic and speak clearly in a studio, like in the Quiz Bowl that he would introduce me to his boss, John Kohler. John (who's still managing the station) gave me my first shot. He taught me to run a board and told me never to talk like a DJ.
2. What's one thing you wish you had known about radio when you first started?
That getting hiccups on the air was not going to be the problem I anticipated.
3. How has God pulled you out of your comfort zone?
What's a comfort zone? God introduces me to people who are far wiser and more talented than me often. That inspires me. He sharpens me daily.
4. Some great advice you recently received is…
"We don't work for rest. We work from rest." My Pastor, Dale Walker
5. Tell us about someone who you really respect and why?
I really respect my former Co-Host Peter Brooks. He is generous and patient. He was always selfless (on air and off) and he's one of the most authentically Christian people I know. (and he's retired now, so I'm not saying this for brownie points.)
6. What's one thing you try to do when life gets hard?
Worship. Put on total "God will do it jams."
7. What's something about you that would surprise most people?
I am passionate about Shakespeare and perform his works most Summers.
8. What's your go to song when the windows are down and you're driving on the highway?
Right now, it's Higher Power from Crowder's Milk and Honey.
9. In three words describe your ideal vacation.
The Globe Theatre.
10. Tell us one thing that you bought recently that WASN'T on your grocery list.
I picked up beautiful notebooks and a fountain pen. Show prep doesn't have to be boring.
