1) What's the story behind the new single "Already Home"?
Trevor: This song is about thinking you have nothing and realizing you have everything. We've all felt like the grass looks greener on the other side, and living with that discontentment can blur your vision and your decisions in life. I'm so thankful for the things God's brought me through and this song is a testimony to that.
2) What has the response been to the latest album "Welcome to the Masquerade"? What kind of stories have you guys been hearing?
We couldn't be happier. The album's received an overwhelming response and we feel very blessed. To have been doing this as long as we have and see the response grow every album is an incredible, humbling feeling. We're looking forward to taking new steps in 2010.
3) Where are you guys touring this Spring?
We're about to head out on tour with Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle and then move into our headlining tour in March/April. It'll be nice to do some rock tours again.
4) What is your favorite song (if you can just pick one) from "Welcome to the Masquerade"?
I love them all for different reasons but I would probably say "Fire It Up" or "Already Home." Two extremes I know, but that's how I like it, one end of the spectrum to the other.
5) Do you have an all-time favorite TFK song?
I don't have one in particular but "Quicken" off of the "Phenomenon" record holds a special place in my heart. When I hear it/perform it, it takes me right back to the creative place I was in at the time. It was one of the first songs written in the transition out of fusing rock/funk/hip hop. I still love Hip Hop and it's been a while since anyone's fused it with rock legitimately (outside of LP/Jay-Z). You might see it resurface in the TFK camp at some point. We'll see.
6) Who inspires you personally, musically and/or spiritually?
Spiritually, my parents have always been my inspiration. They've made so many sacrifices through the years to follow what they knew in their hearts was right. That's never the easy thing to do. I'm also a big Joyce Meyer fan. Her messages blow me away. I have all of her vodcasts on my iPod when I'm traveling.
Musically, so many artists have influenced me through the years, from my first record Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to the artists I have the privilege of writing/producing with now. Too many to list. Great songs are everywhere; you just have to be listening.
7) You guys have been doing this band thing for some time now. How do you keep a sense of urgency about your work?
We still have the same drive/passion for what we do that we did when we started 13 or 14 years ago. We hope to be here making music together for a very long time. The "urgency" comes from our ever-growing love for music and listening to what God has to say, or at least trying to.
8) Do you have any humorous or interesting stories from radio visits in the past year?
B.Reith and I did an interview together on the "Creation Tour" in the fall, and we'd met not long before that. He mentioned a reference to 90s Hip Hop (my absolute fave) and we turned to each other and had a 15 minute conversation about it as if no one else was in the room, but we were still on the air.
9) Did anyone in the band make a New Year's Resolution?
Not sure really. Mine is always: "No Boundaries!!"
10) Being Canadians, do you feel any extra special allegiance or Canadian pride this winter as the Olympic Games are set to kick off in Vancouver?
It's definitely exciting for Vancouver to be hosting this year. We get ribbed so much for the cold weather thing that we may as well be hosting the Winter Olympics!!!
