WGTS/Washington DC Summer Concert Series Ends In A Flash
Thousands of WGTS’ listeners turned out under dark skies for the final concert in the WGTS 91.9 Summer Concert Series at Tysons Corner Center Plaza. Everyone was charged up to see Britt Nicole take the stage. Midway through her first song the power went out to the stage. It was restored within 10 minutes and Britt retook the stage to raucous applause. Unfortunately, just three songs later lightning struck near the mall and the thundered cracked forcing an early end to the concert and the crowd into the mall. After about half an hour Britt Nicole came back into the mall and signed autographs and even sang a couple songs acoustically. One fan summed up the mood during and after the show. “It was a lot of fun, even though it was like three-and-a-half songs long. It was definitely worth it,” said 15-year-old Lauren. The station also collected hundreds of backpacks from listeners for the Salvation Army. Those backpacks are being distributed to needy children in the DC area as they prepare to go back to school. The WGTS 91.9 Summer Concert series was a free summer event to say thank you to WGTS listeners and to celebrate the station turning 60 in 2017.
