2017 ... What Was That?

Another year has quickly flown by; I've barely had time to process all that has happened. Life is a series of moments and the ones for 2017 were a whirlwind of adjustments; with all roads in one way or another leading back to radio. Everything from revisionist politics to revelations of sexual assault; abuse, misconduct, and pedophilia. Several of these social no-no's even reared its head in the movie, TV, music, and radio industries.
We've had natural disasters, mass shootings, political intrigue, and a rebirth of social consciousness.
Personalities
We are a part of the world we live in and it's been hard to stay focused on the business of music and radio. However, all of us have pressed on to achieve dreams and reach goals. My advice between now and the new year is simple; we're still the gate keepers of communications, the human connection. It's important for air personalities to use this time to re-focus on the verbal skills of concise presentation; it takes a lot of practice to make what you do look simple.
Programmers ...
You are management, but try and connect with what brought you to radio in the first place --music and fun. At the end of the day, all the 8a meetings mean nothing if your station sounds like a robot. Things slow down around companies this time of year, take it back to basics in your head and reapply those thoughts to whatever is in your strategic plan for the new year.
Enjoy ...
This is the perfect time to get out and do some individual research on your listeners, catch up on new emerging lifestyle trends, and reprogram your brain to what is or is not important. Happy holidays!
